O you are sick of self-love, Malvolio As Sir Toby ( Olivias uncle) and Sir Andrew (his drinking companion) love drinking they often come home drunk. They are fed up of Malvolio stopping them drinking and merrymaking and threatening to tell Olivia about what they are doing. Feste (a fool) who occasionally joins them in their merrymaking also dislikes Malvolio as he refers to Feste as a barren rascal who has no more brains than a stone Maria Olivias lady in waiting (maid) has a fancy for Sir Toby also does not like Malvolio. The four decide to play a trick on him to bring him down a peg or two. Maria invents a trick which could only work on someone as conceited as Malvolio. The trick they decide to play on him is for Maria to imitate Olivias writing and write a fake letter to Malvolio saying how much she loves him. They will then leave it somewhere Malvolio will find it. Maria tells Malvolio that she thinks Olivia loves him then leaves the letter under a chair, on the patio in the garden, and hide behind the hedges to watch. Malvolio already thinking that Olivia loves him sits down, seeing the letter he picks it up the letter and opens it. He quickly realises that they are love letters from Olivia as he recognises the handwriting, and he jumps to the conclusion that they are about him. M- Malvolio! M! Why, that begins my name He reads them out loud and then boasts, out loud, about what life married to Olivia would be like. Imagining about what fun it would be to order Sir Toby around. Meanwhile Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, Feste and Maria watching Malvolio fall for their trick hook line and sinker are roaring with laughter. Sir Toby is also cursing as he is annoyed about Malvolio dreaming about ordering him around. The last letter Malvolio reads contains instructions for Malvolio if he wants to return her love. The instructions were to:- Be opposite with my Kinsman (go against here relatives). Surly with servants (Be nasty to here servants). Let thy tongue twang arguments of state (speak about politics all the time). Remember who commended thy yellow stockings, and wished to see thee cross-gartered. ( wear yellow, cross-gartered stockings). Cast thy humble slough and appear fresh( smile all the time. These instruction are totally the opposite of what Olivia would want Malvolio to be. She is in mourning and will not want someone close to her grinning like a Cheshire cat and yellow stockings is a colour she abhors The next day Olivia was nervous as she was about to meet Cesario, she called Malvolio thinking he would calm her down. Maria warned her that he was acting a little strangely, but she ignored her saying I am as mad as he .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d , .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .postImageUrl , .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d , .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:hover , .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:visited , .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:active { border:0!important; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:active , .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub27c6dfb17e80657686417178656682d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Dickens presents the characters of Gradgrind EssayIf sad and merry madness equal be Malvolio enters fully cross gartered grinning from ear to ear. He keeps hinting about the letter, but Olivia knows nothing about him. Eventually Olivia reaches the conclusion that he is having a bout of midsummer madness and asks Sir Toby to look after him while she meets Cesario. Malvolio still thinking the letter was genuine thinks that Olivia has done this to see whether he will follow the instructions of the letter and be rude to her relatives. Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, Maria and Fabian (another one of Sir Tobys drinking pals) take Malvolio away. They start to tease Malvolio pretending he is possessed by the devil. Malvolio refuses to do what he is told and tells them Go hang yourselves all and that they Shall know more hereafter and storms out. The next thing they decide to do to Malvolio is to tie him up in a dark cell and leave him there till they think that the joke has passed. Olivia will not care as she is in the belief that hes mad. They put Malvolio in the dark cell as planned. Then Feste dressed as Sir Topas (a Spanish priest) torments Malvolio. He tells Malvolio that he must be mad by telling him that the room he is in is light. Eventually Sir Toby decides the joke is over and agrees to take a letter from Malvolio to the Olivia. In the final scene of the play Malvolio exposes the trick in front of assembled company. He still feels bitter and shouts Ill be revengd on the whole pack of you I personally feel that Malvolios treatment was, to a certain extent, justified, but I feel that Sir Toby and Feste went too far. They were right to play a trick on him as he needed being brought down a peg or two. I think they shouldnt have locked him up in the dark cell as that is more like torture than a joke. At the time the play was written I think many people would have thought that Malvolios treatment was justified as many people were against the Puritans. One reason Shakespeare wrote this play is to get at the Puritans as they wanted to stop theatre, the thing that made Shakespeare famous.

Linguistic and Metaphorical Synesthesia

Linguistic and Metaphorical Synesthesia Definition In semantics,  cognitive linguistics, and literary studies, synesthesia is  a metaphorical process by which one sense modality is described or characterized in terms of another, such as a bright sound or a quiet color. Adjective: synesthetic or synaesthetic. Also known as linguistic synesthesia and metaphorical synesthesia. This literary and linguistic sense of the term is derived from the neurological  phenomenon of synesthesia, which has been described as any abnormal extra sensation, often occurring across sense modality boundaries (Oxford Handbook of Synesthesia, 2013). As Kevin Dann says in Bright Colors Falsely Seen (1998), Synaesthetic perception, which is forever inventing the world anew, militates against conventionalism. EtymologyFrom the Greek, perceive together Examples and Observations An expression such as warm color is a classic example of a synesthetic expression. It involves the mapping from the tactile sense referred to by the adjective warm onto the visual referred to by the noun color. On the other hand, warm breeze is not a synesthetic expression, because both warm and breeze refer to the tactile sense, and there is no sensory mismatch in this expression as one sees in warm color.(Yoshikata Shibuya et al., Understanding Synesthetic Expressions: Vision and Olfaction With the PhysiologicalPsychological Model. Speaking of Colors and Odors, ed. by Martina Plà ¼macher and Peter Holz. John Benjamins, 2007)I am hearing the shape of the rainTake the shape of the tent  . . ..(James Dickey, opening lines of The Mountain Tent)Nabokovs Colored Alphabet[T]he color sensation seems to be produced by the very act of my orally forming a given letter while I imagine its outline. The long a of the English alphabet . . . has for me the tint of weathered wood, but a French a   evokes polished ebony. This black group [of letters] also includes hard g (vulcanized rubber) and r  (a sooty rag being ripped). Oatmeal n, noodle-limp l, and the ivory-backed hand mirror of an o,  take care of the whites. . . . Passing on to the blue group there is  steely x, thundercloud z, and huckleberry h. Since a subtle interaction exists between sound and shape, I see q as browner than k, while s is not the light blue of c, but a curious mixture of azure and mother pearl. . . .My wife has this gift of seeing letters in color, too, but her colors are completely different.(Vladimir Nabokov, Speak Memory: An Autobiography Revisited, 1966) I see a sound. KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. It looks like KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. It looks like gravity ripping. It looks like the jets on a spaceship.I catch the sound and it takes me into the cold.(Emily Raboteau, The Professors Daughter. Henry Holt, 2005)James Joyces Use of SynesthesiaStephen stared at nothing in particular. He could hear, of course, all kinds of words  changing colour like those crabs  about Ringsend in the morning burrowing quickly into all colours of different sorts of the same sand where they had a home somewhere beneath or seemed to.(James Joyce,  Ulysses, 1922)Dylan Thomass Use of  SynesthesiaI hear the bouncing hillsGrow larked and greener at berry brownFall and the dew larks singTaller this thunderclap spring, and howMore spanned with angles rideThe mansouled fiery islands! Oh,Holier then their eyes,And my shining men no more aloneAs I sail out to die.(Dylan Thomas, final verse of Poem on His Birthday)Clear Sounding and Loud ColorsMeaning may be transferred from one sensory faculty to another (synesthesia), as when we apply clear, with principal reference to sight, to hearing, as in clear-sounding. Loud is transferred from hearing to sight when we speak of loud colors. Sweet, with primary reference to taste, may be extended to hearing (sweet music), smell (The rose smells sweet), and to all senses at once (a sweet person). Sharp may be transferred from feeling to taste, and so may smooth. Warm may shift its usual reference from feeling to sight, as in warm colors, and along with cold may refer in a general way to all senses, as in a warm (cold) welcome.(John Algeo and Thomas Pyles, The Origins and Development of the English Language, 5th ed. Thompson, 2005) Synesthetic Metaphors- Many of the metaphors we use every day are synesthetic, describing one sensory experience with vocabulary that belongs to another. Silence is sweet, facial expressions are sour. Sexually attractive people are hot; sexually unattractive people leave us cold. A salesmans patter is smooth; a day at the office is rough. Sneezes are bright; coughs are dark. Along with pattern recognition, synesthesia may be one of the neurological building blocks of metaphor.(James Geary, I Is an Other: The Secret Life of Metaphor and How It Shapes the Way We See. HarperCollins, 2011)- Synesthetic metaphors are very common. For instance, colors are subdivided into warm and cold colors or provided with acoustic and tactile qualities, such as in the following expressions: loud red, soft blue, heavy dark green, etc.(Martina Plà ¼macher, Color Perception, Color Description, and Metaphor.  Speaking of Colors and Odors. John Benjamins, 2007)

Case study part A and B Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Part A and B - Case Study Example Legislative law states that any person having more than 8000 pounds of capital entitled to his name shall not be allowed to claim the allowance. The court argues that the second house must not be disregarded when calculating his capital. Mr. Doyle says that he wants the second house exempted in assets determination. The commissioner refutes this claim. By occasionally using the second house across the street, it does guarantee it as his house. In the real sense he had purchased both the houses. The court is of the opinion that the second house is ‘annex† of the other. The two houses are seen as one house being used to serve different purposes. House A is used as a dining area while house B acts as a bathroom and bedroom. Therefore Mr. Frank should not ask the court to disregard the second house as his part of the capital. After calculations are done, it is found that his capital exceeds the one stipulated by the law. He is denied the allowance in the end. Legal issues in the case The claimant wants his rights to allowance entitlement respected. He legally contributed to the allowance. When he wants to claim the payment, the court has fast thrown away his case. It claims that the case lacks a basis. Legally, the victim feels that the second house that he purchased should be not be used when calculating his assets. ... This according to court is a violation of the job seekers act. An ownership conflict is being outlined in this case. For any dispute concerning properties, legal actions are the best option. The language and the approaches used in interpretation Contextual approach Lord Ward uses contextual approach. This is using the use of words the way they appear in the statutes but changing their meaning when interpreting. This ensures clarity in judge’s deliverance. The discipline has ambiguities which ought to be avoided. In reading the first paragraph of the statute he states that â€Å"under regulation 88 the capital and income partner or polygamous â€Å"wife†, which by virtue of section 13 (2) of the Act are assumed as his, are to be aggregated with his†. His wife agrees to be using the house as hers. Therefore, the words are used the way they appear but are applied in the case before the court. Literal meaning method The judge himself explains the meaning of using the words literally. The word dwelling has been used to mean a house. He states that â€Å"dwelling has been chosen, not, for, example, dwelling –house nor residential accommodation. To quote the judge â€Å"a residence† is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as place of residence; dwelling - place, habitation, house†. He goes further to say â€Å"dwelling place is a place of abode whereas dwelling house is a house occupied as a place of residence†. Present is a clear distinction of a dwelling house from the office, a business house or a warehouse. The judge only plays with this word to confuse the proceeding. It sinks in entire people’s minds that the dwelling is rightfully belongs to Mr. Doyle and cannot be excluded in determining his asset. Golden rule: This is a

Newspaper Report On The Conviction Of Macbeth :: essays research papers

Topic: If macbeth was still alive show a newspaper article showing the trial that would take place concerning his conviction of murder (INSERT TOWN HERE) - After a long and arduous trial, MacBeth was found guilty by the Brisbane Court House yesterday. The former King of Scotland pleaded not guilty in the (INSERT TOWN HERE) sittings of District Court to murder and premeditated murder. It was revealed by the defence, that MacBeth was a former battle hardened soldier, who was given the title ?Thane of Cawdor? for his glorious effort on the battlefield. It was also portrayed that MacBeth was a character who set aside concern for his own life, a trait that was quickly dismissed by the prosecution throughout the trial. It was heard by the jury that, when MacBeth was returning from the battlefield to Duncan?s camp, he first encountered the mysterious and enigmatic three witches. It was here that the prophecy of MacBeth becoming king was announced by the witches. MacBeth testified upon hearing this, that he disbelieved the allegation. However witnesses put forward that when MacBeth arrived back at his castle, he was overheard conspiring with Lady MacBeth regarding Duncan?s murder. Further into the trial it was exposed that MacBeth could not become king, as the Scottish lineage to the throne moves from father to first-born son. However, members from within the same bloodline could lay claim to the throne if Duncan had no living sons. The prosecution then brought forth D.N.A evidence, which revealed that MacBeth was in fact Duncan?s cousin. Since Duncan had already named Malcolm the heir to the Scottish throne, Duncan had to be murdered. Information gathered from a nearby witness shows that at the hour of 12:45 am, Duncan the former king of Scotland lay peacefully in his humble chambers. The prosecution revealed that the servants guarding the kings? bedroom were drugged in order to gain a silent entry. MacBeth then quietly crept towards the king lying asleep. From the evidence revealed in the autopsy of Duncan, and the statement given to police by witnesses, it was discovered that he was stabbed a total of seven times in the chest area causing death to the victim. With murder weapon in hand, MacBeth then continued to murder the two drugged servants to ensure total silence on their part. A well beloved and honoured king now brutally dead. It was then conveyed by the prosecution that MacBeth proceeded to blame the deaths, on the two dead servants.

‘George’s Trains’ Working Capital Essay

George’s Train Shop is a family owned business that focuses on the sales and repairs of train toys. George is running a profitable business, but as he is aware of my MBA Managerial Finance class, he has asked for advice on his working capital practices. Although George is currently enjoying the benefits of a profitable business, there are opportunities for him to expand his business ventures. This first starts by dissecting degree of aggressiveness in working capital practices, current capital budgeting practices, and areas where he can improve in both arenas. In addition, careful management of the company’s cash flow will allow George’s Train Shop to explore other business opportunities for growth as well as flourish with increased.Alshubiri investigated the relationship between the aggressive/conservative working capital policies and the impact on profitability and risk. The study indicated a negative relationship between the profitability measure of firms and banks and degree of aggressiveness of working capital investment and financing policies (2011). Aggressive working capital policy is one in which you try to squeeze by with a minimal investment in current assets coupled with an extensive use of short-term credit. Conservative working capital practices are those in which companies assure plenty of cash in the bank, warehouses are full of inventory and payables are all up to date (Bank, n.d.). In an attempt to cut expenses to a minimum, George’s Train Shop owner, George Olieux, manages working capital by keeping few inventory and reordering inventory when only 1 product model is left on shelf (Intelecom, n.d.). According to Bank, as you tighten inventory, your sales and accounts receivable might swoon because you could run short on product. Inventory shortages might result in lower revenue and collections as competitors with well stocked inventories steal your customers (n.d.). Moreover, you risk default and bankruptcy as you adopt more aggressive working capital policies, as tight inventories can lead to shortages and lost sales. Firms with aggressive working capital policies, such as George’s Trains Shop may not be able to generate more returns on assets by following aggressive approaches towards short term assets and liabilities. Capital Budgeting refers to the process in which a  business determines whether projects are worth pursuing (Byrd, 2012); however, because the amount of capital available at any given time for new projects is limited, management needs to use capital budgeting techniques to determine which projects will yield the most return over an applicable period of time (Investopedia, n.d.). When Olieux acquired the business, it was heavily dependent on sales of classic Lionel trains, but when demand dropped, he had to make capital budgeting decision and invest in new product lines (Intelecom, n.d.). George Olieux explored other product opportunities by analysis of trends in the market. Because smaller trains and race cars were gaining popularity, Olieux decided to start selling race cars and smaller train models. The ability to identify which assets are expected to add value to the firm is central to the financial management role (Byrd, 2012). George’s capital budgeting technique included observation of market trends and pursuing assets, such as race cars and small trains, that were trending at the moment. Since George did not use popular methods of capital budgeting, including net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and payback period, George had to take a conservative route by first exploring the success of just one race car product line. A potential pitfall George uses in current capital budgeting practices is the lack of a sophisticated measure of capital budgeting, such as the net present value. Such methods can measure which projects can add value to the business as well as compare various investments to one another. The Net Present Value method measures the dollar added value the investment will bring to the firm. It is calculated by taking the present value of future cash flows minus the initial investment (Byrd, 2012). George has statements from previous years that document cash flows and bu siness cycle trends. These statements include the timing and magnitude of cash flows, which include increased cash flows in the summer due to tourism, and reduced cash flows during income tax time. Using previous cash flow statements can help anticipate and calculate future cash inflows of a potential investment, such as the purchase of a Race Car or small train line, and can provide George with an accurate picture of the project’s Net Present Value. The lack of a cash cushion is one primary reason small businesses fail; therefore for small businesses, it is important to understand and manage the company’s cash cycle (Byrd, 2012). The cash flow statement records the amounts of cash  and cash equivalents entering and leaving a company, and includes three components by which cash enters and leaves a company: core operations, investing, and financing (Heakal, 2010). The operations section of the Cash Flow statement would include changes made in cash, accounts receivable, depreciation, inventory, and accounts payable (Heakal, 2010). This would include purchases of inventory and the sales of products/services. George keeps inventory levels to a minimum as an attempt to keep cash spending at a minimum, so frequent purchasing and selling of inventory is observed. The investing section of the Cash Flow statement would include George’s investment in acquiring the lease for the building and business, while the financing section includes loans for purchasing the business and interest paid on those loans. A company can use a cash flow statement to predict future cash flow, which helps with matters in budgeting (Heakal, 2012); therefore I recommend that George use the business’ cash flow statement in evaluating capital budgeting projects, such as the addition of Race Car and small train product lines, as well as other potential ventures. Moreover, I recommend George use the statement of cash flow to understand how much cash is generate and how much of that cash stems from core operations, such as the sale of specific product lines or the repair services offered. The management of cash is necessary to start, operate and expand a business. Before George can expand his business, he must prove to potential investors not just the profitability of the business, but the ability to pay short term obligations. By using sophisticated capital budgeting methods, such as the NPV, George can accurately asses the value added from potential investments. Through careful managing of cash flow statements, George has the potential to not just pay off short term obligations, but expand business ventures. Resources Alshubiri, F. (2011). My Favorite Movie Essays

My Favorite Movie Essays My Favorite Movie Essay My Favorite Movie Essay This movie described that the captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) was given a new mission when he was finishing his tough mission, landing on Omaha Beach in the World War? : To find and rescue the private Ryan (Matt Damon), whose three brothers all had been killed in combat. Miller obeyed the mission and took a small troop behind enemy lines to retrieve Ryan. With no information about Ryan’s whereabouts, Miller and his men moved from town to town, venturing deeper into enemy territory. Tragically, although the troop completed its mission, most of the troop’s members died, leaving just two people. There are three viewpoints that I want to share after I watched this movie. Firstly, why did eight men risk their lives to save just one? It costs co much that I think it is not worth them to do it. Specialist, we have to think of the benefit of whole country in the war, not only one person or one family; in other words, we should rather do right thing than do thing right. Secondly, Miller decided to let the German soldier live and walk away, the decision had been touched off a debate between the team. At last, it is ironic that the same German soldier, who he had set free, shot him. It is worth thinking about whether we should be a kind man on the battlefield or not. If I were Miller, I would have done my duty of soldier even the event in the war was so cruel. Sometimes in the war field, we have no choices. Finally, Ryan refused to leave and Miller unwillingly agreed and ordered his troop to help defend the bridge. They almost died in the battle that they protected the bridge, including Miller himself. I am very touched by the spirit that they would rather sacrifice their life to save more American soldier’s lives. I love this movie so much, not only it is a war film, but also it lets me think about my military service. I had been a commander in military, so I could realize why Captain Miller did the decision even if it was a dilemma. Therefore, the movie, â€Å"Saving Private Ryan,† is my favorite movie that is so good to see, I want to watch this movie again.

Euthanasia5 essays

Euthanasia5 essays The beliefs and views of our country are sometimes hypocritical and unjust. We have been educated with the idea that killing people is against our morality as well as our religious beliefs. However, there seems to be some instances when this rule does not apply. If one kills another in self-defense it is considered bravery, if a soldier kills an enemy in war it is considered courageous and honorable. On contrary, relieving a patient ¡s pain and desperate suffering by ending a patient ¡s life turns out to the human morality. The decisions that people make are always up for debate by anyone who has an opinion one way or another. The controversial issue of euthanasia has been going on for decades and as of nowadays, there is no end in sight. There are many views on the topic of euthanasia, some believe that decisions should be made of the patients ¡ best interest, while others insist that men have the responsibility to prolong others ¡ lives. Both sides have their own ideas to b ase upon, and this contradiction has brought along the topics for discussions. Some people believe that a person with an incurable disease or severe disability that turns life into pain or so burden that a meaningful and desirable existence has ceased, then this person should be allowed to die. Another argument is that the role of the physician is to do whatever is best for their patients. This could turn out to be a case in which a patient awaiting for death soon may be considered for euthanasia. The job of a physician should always be to help their patient in any way possible. It ¡s the duty as a professional to heal, prolong life, and to reduce suffering. In some extreme cases when every other alternative is hopeless, the best that a physician can do would be to help a person hasten death in order to relieve the unnecessary suffering they would have to go through. Another argument supporting the use of euthanasia is that everyone would b ...

Foods in America Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Foods in America - Essay Example Although these dried foods are used to give flavor to dishes, I still eat them raw and at times I fry them as snacks. One of my favorite dishes made from dried foods is Pemmican. This dish is made up of dried berries, nuts, and meat. What I like about this food is the fact that it is very handy and convenient because you could eat it without cooking it first. You can eat it anytime you want. Yet, there are some American Indian foods that I do not like that much. One of those I like the least is their smoked foods. Although I like dried foods, I still find the taste of smoked foods quite unpleasant, especially the smoked salmon. I find it too salty and fatty. I think smoking foods is best for preparing and preserving food, but not as an actual dish. Even so, I really like most of American Indian foods. They are natural, healthy, and savory. Quality of Health Care Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Quality of Health Care - Essay Example The paper outlines the obstacles to quality health care and ways of overcoming the obstacles. Quality health care refers to the services that ensure that healthy people continue to remain healthy, curing entirely acute diseases, and those suffering from chronic diseases live a long fruitful life. Quality care has to ensure that the three kinds of people receive adequate and prompt care. This process faces challenges that prevent it from achieving its maximum potential. One of the challenges is poor access to these services (McLaughlin, 2006). Access to quality care refers to the ability of individuals to access medical services when they need it. It entails two different but related components, that is, availability of facilities that provide health care around where people live and the aptitude of people paying up for the services. Inability to pay is a financial barrier to healthcare. Medical care is expensive to many individuals in the country. It is for this reason that the government came up with medical insurance to subsidizes this fee. It works in a manner that ensures that most of those under employment are insured. This insurance extends to their family members, as well. However, fractions of people in the country are under employment (Elizabeth & Maulik, 2008). The unemployed and self-employed do not have access to insurance. They pay the entire bill themselves, which is rather expensive. In addition to this, these people do not qualify to be under public programs including Medicaid and Medicare since they are unemployed. Medicaid and Medicare help in subsidizing the cost of health care services to be incurred by its members. An alternative is to purchase the individual private coverage, which goes for a rather high premium. The number of people without health insurance continues to rise steadily due to many factors. A major factor is the rise
